Do you need a rewire?

Signs Your Home May Need Rewiring

Older electrical wiring can become unsafe and may no longer meet modern standards. We help homeowners identify when a house rewire is needed to improve safety, reliability and compliance with current UK wiring regulations.

Old Rubber or Fabric Wiring

If your home was built before the 1970s and still has its original wiring, it's worth having it inspected. Older rubber or fabric-insulated cables can deteriorate over time and may no longer meet current wiring regulations.

Frequent Tripping or Blown Fuses

If your consumer unit regularly trips or fuses keep blowing, your electrical installation may no longer be able to safely cope with modern electrical demands.

Warm, Damaged or Sparking Sockets

Discoloured sockets, burning smells, buzzing switches or visible sparks should never be ignored and require immediate attention from a qualified electrician.

A failed or unsatisfactory EICR report

If your Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) identifies C1, C2 or multiple C3 observations, a partial or full house rewire may be recommended to restore safety and meet current wiring regulations.

Buying or renovating an older property

Buying or renovating an older home is the ideal opportunity to replace ageing wiring before decorating begins, helping avoid future disruption and costly remedial work.

Nottingham House Rewiring Frequetly Asked Questions

Thinking about rewiring your home? Our FAQs answer the questions we’re asked most often. If you need further advice, get in touch to book your free survey and quotation.

Every property is different, so we always visit before quoting. As a rough guide, a 1-bed property typically ranges from £3,000–£4,000, a 2-bed from £4,000–£6,000, and a 3-bed from £4,500–£7,500. We’ll always give you a fixed price after the survey — no vague estimates.

Most rewires take between 3 and 7 days depending on property size and complexity. A 2-bed house is typically 3–4 days. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we start.

Not necessarily. There will be periods without power and there’s unavoidable disruption — but many of our customers stay in the property throughout. We’ll plan the work to keep disruption to a minimum and always let you know when power needs to go off.

Some chasing into walls is usually needed to run cables and fit back boxes. We minimise this as much as possible and work neatly throughout. We can recommend a plasterer to make good after if needed.

You’ll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) signed by a qualified electrician, plus a Building Regulations Completion Certificate. These are essential documents for selling your home or for insurance purposes.

Not necessarily — it depends on the condition of the existing wiring. The best way to find out is an EICR (electrical inspection). If we find the wiring is still in safe condition we’ll tell you honestly. We won’t recommend a rewire if one isn’t needed.
